Now in its 28th year, Europe's #1 American
lifestyle event, Notts Americana International festival
just keeps on growing. The show regularly attracts more
than 70,000 weekenders, exhibitors and day visitors. This
year Notts Americana takes place over the weekend of 11-13
July. Starting out as a humble American car rally,
Chris and Bev Jackson have built the event into the biggest
American lifestyle festival in Europe.
By taking a slice of the 'American Dream'
they have created an amazing week-end that has no equal
anywhere outside of the USA. Much more than a car show or
music festival its all of these combined into one massive
fun-filled family orientated event. There is music to please
most tastes ranging from country, rock ‘n’ roll, tribute
bands, the 50s, 60s , 70s and 80s plus more, more, more!!!
American classic cars, customised big rigs, some of the
biggest RVs you are ever likely to see from the early 1900s
to the present day and endless rows of stalls selling just
about everything and anything will offer plenty to look
at and while away the hours.
The Saturday and Sunday auto/bike displays
are second to none with a huge number of top class cars
and motorcycles entering the specially judged 'show and
shine' displays. With forty prestigious awards on offer
competition will be strong. On top there is side-shows,
amusements, auto/bike club displays, children's amusements,
talent contests, Ride The Raging Bull, Flight Simulators,
tattooist, line-dance & jive tuition, on site camping
facilities, four bars, high quality food vendors. What more
could you ask for from a top British festival???
With music coming thick and fast, over
the past few years artistes of the calibre of Lonnie Donegan,
Suzie Quatro, The Bellamy Brother, country singer/songwriter
Paul Overstreet and veteran country legend George Hamilton
IV have all appeared at the Americana.
This year, western swing band Asleep
At The Wheel are not to be missed on the Saturday. Fellow
Texan, Wayne “The Train” Hancock can be found on Sunday.
US singer/songwriter Gail Davis also returns for the Friday.
Nick Willett first appeared on the main stage in 2002 making
a big impact on the crowd. Rosie Flores has played the Americana
since 1995 and also watch out for Paul Ansell’s No.9.
Manfred Mann had a string of hits through
the mid - late 60’s. With a name-change, The Manfreds head-up
the bill for the Brits on the Saturday, with original
lead singer Paul Jones (Manfred Man). The successful nine-piece
retro doo-wop band Darts had a chain of hits during the
1970’s – early 80’s, they are booked for Sunday. Just a
few of the British country bands include the highly popular
Trading With The Natives, Hank Wangford, Reg Meuross Band
and Dez Walters band. On the rockabilly side watch out for
the Hicksville Bombers, Ian Calford & The Brakemen.
Billy Fadden & The Rhythm Busters, John Lewis Trio,
Infernos, Country Cattin, plus hillbilly band Western Aces.
Quill have played regularly at Notts Americana
over several years, plying Celtic folk hued Fleetwood Mac-ish rock,
before the Corrs were invented. Something for everyone!!! For the many
Cliff Richards (and Shadows) fans a great tribute in the form of Jerry
Richards & The Evening Shadows. Just off the A1 at Newark County
Showgrounds, Nottinghamshire is the place to be over 11th-13th July.
